How to press DTF transfers
These are the starting settings we use for Edge Vinyl DTF transfers. Presses read differently, so test on a scrap or an inside seam first. If your order came with its own settings, use those.
Settings by film
| Film | Temp | Time | Pressure | Peel | Repress |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hot Peel (standard) | 285°F | 10 sec | Medium | Instantly, slowly at 180° | 5–10 sec |
| Glitter | 305°F | 15 sec | Medium | Cold | 10–15 sec |
| Holo Stripe | 305°F | 15 sec | Medium | Cold | 10–15 sec |
| Reflective | 305°F | 15 sec | Medium | Cold | 10–15 sec |
Step by step (standard Hot Peel)
- Check the garment. Make sure it can take the heat and pressure. Coated or waterproof fabric? Wipe the area with isopropyl alcohol first.
- Pre-press 5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
- Place the transfer ink-side down where you want it.
- Press at 285°F for 10 seconds, medium pressure.
- Peel right away. Pull slowly at a low 180° angle while it's still hot.
- Repress 5–10 seconds with a silicone or rubber pad, or parchment, to seal the print and give it a matte finish.
Hot peel vs. cold peel
Our standard DTF film is hot peel: you peel the film right after pressing. Our Glitter, Holo Stripe and Reflective films are cold peel: let them cool fully before peeling, then repress.
If something goes wrong
- Edges lifting after peel: repress for the full time with a cover sheet.
- Shiny finish: repress with parchment or a silicone pad for a matte look.
